ISO's official standards record shows that ISO 18527-3:2020 completed its systematic review and was confirmed on May 19, 2026. This means the current edition remains valid. The standard also has Amendment 1:2025, published in August 2025.
ISO 18527-3 applies to eyewear intended for surface swimming, including recreational and specialist competitive swimming goggles. Its scope covers materials, construction, optical properties, test methods, product marking, labeling, and information supplied by the manufacturer.
The application boundary is equally important. Swimming eyewear covered by this standard is intended for surface swimming and shallow diving, such as entering the water from the edge of a pool. It is not intended for use when diving from a high board.
For swim goggle brands and importers, the 2026 confirmation is a useful reminder that product development should begin with a clearly defined technical specification. Lens performance, optical quality, materials, construction, strap and adjustment systems, marking, instructions, and supporting test information should be reviewed before mass production.
World Aquatics separately provides an approval process for competition swimwear accessories. Its official information requires applications, technical drawings, and one product sample per model, and includes a simplified application category for goggles. World Aquatics has previously stated that the simplified process applies to goggles already deemed to meet the relevant ISO standards.
ISO conformity and World Aquatics approval are related but separate conclusions. Meeting an ISO standard does not automatically mean that a product has received World Aquatics approval, and neither conclusion automatically replaces the import or consumer-product requirements of a particular market.
